Google Caffeine and Your Domain

Google, the big dog’s of the search engines has decided on a complete overhaul of their systems.  That is the complex formula and calculations Google uses to rank all the web pages, including yours.  It’s called “Google Caffeine” and is their “Next Generation” search engine.

Google is usually more secretive on their search engine data than any Government institution.  However with Caffeine, they have been a bit more open and let webmasters sample it in beta mode.  Meaning what they know now may change when it’s officially rolled out later.

What we do know is that site speed and bad links will play an important part of your sites ranking.  Meaning how fast your website will load and how many of your links go nowhere, go to wrong locations or to “bad neighborhoods.”  Spam sites and such. All will be looked at more closely with the new engine.

One of the things I have always preached was that if you have good content, a focused point of the page, and a properly submitted page that you would naturally get great ranking results in search engines. No need for tricks or gimmicks.  Just be natural and be real.

That theory seems to hold true in this new version of Google.  Quality content, easy page design, good navigation, title, meta tags, description, keyword density, may play an increased role in achieving high rankings.

Did you catch that?  Meta Tags and Description.  Those two factors that some experts said were a thing of the past; Google Caffeine seems to end that debate.  Properly doing your back of site housekeeping will help in your rankings.

Another important factor coming to light is your website traffic. What it does and how long it stays on your site, will factor into your ranking. The better these points are, the better your ranking.

The old reliable standards will also be important: alt tags, page views, bounce rate, traffic numbers, time spent on page, and now the number of social bookmarks may influence your ranking.

The one question on many webmasters mind is how does Keyword Domains factor into the new search engine algorithm? Or does it even matter?

Smart Internet marketers have realized that many people now enter in domain names similar to what they want to find.  So they use their keywords as part of the domain name.  So does this mean we get higher ranking in the search engines because of that??

The nice thing coming from all the reviews and reports is that quality websites that are properly named, properly built, will rank far better than sloppy, one hit wonders or spammy sites.  If your content is your product and you can capture the readers attention, you will win the rankings race.

Of course, this being Google, we won’t know for sure until its rolled out and people start to play with it real time. The new search engine is to be released after the holidays.  So figure the first part of January 2010.
